Most people probably don’t know this about me, but I suffer from an addiction. I thoroughly enjoy sticking cotton Q-tips in my ear and twisting them around and around. I like to really get in ‘there’. It feels great. Coupled with my addiction, I am also a ‘result’ oriented kind of individual. When I pull the Q-tip out of my ear, if I see yellow, I love it.
Results.
Tuesday night, my little turtle and I found ourselves in an urgent care office at 7 pm…with ear pain on my left side. I was sent home with medicated ear drops. And here I am Thursday morning at 2 am with excruciating ear pain. If you suffer from a similar addiction, trust me when I say, ‘stop twirling the Q-tips around in your ear, the pain isn’t worth it.’ It itches, aches and one whole side of my face is sensitive to touch.
Greg and I were chatting at lunch and he was having a good heeehaw at my expense. He nicknamed me ‘Mamma Brando’ because I, “sound and look like Marlon Brando from the Godfather when I talk.”
Well that’s obvious.
I have been on the ear drops now for one day and my ear feels worse. And of course since one whole side of my face is in pain, it’s almost as if I have a bullseye on that side. The kids randomly hit my ear as they are giving me hugs or Phoebe was giving free zerberts today and insisted on giving it to me right on the ear. Even my little 15 pound turtle can get a good yelp out of me when she flails her arms around and accidentally crashes into my face. It’s time for me to put an end to my addiction.
I would like to make a proclamation here and now to no longer seek pleasure from Q-tips. I know in a couple of days when my ear begins to clear up and I can no longer remember how intense the pain is, I will desire the Q-tip once again. But I have decided to blog about my pain as a gentle reminder that life is better without Q-tips.
